God of War: Ghost of Sparta is a third person action-adventure video game developed by Ready at Dawn and SCE Santa Monica Studio. Published by Sony Computer Entertainment, it was first released for the PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld video game console on November 2, 2010. The game is the sixth installment in the God of War series and features an updated combat system with 25 percent more gameplay than its PSP predecessor, God of War: Chains of Olympus. The second installment released on the platform, the game has sold almost 1.2 million copies worldwide as of June 2012. Together with Chains of Olympus, Ghost of Sparta was remastered and released on September 13, 2011 as part of the God of War: Origins Collection for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) video game console. The remastered version was released again on August 28, 2012 as part of the God of War Saga, also on the PlayStation 3.
Loosely based on Greek mythology, the game is set in Ancient Greece with the player controlling the protagonist Kratos, the God of War. Kratos is haunted by the visions of his mortal past and decides to explore his origins. Journeying to the city of Atlantis, Kratos finds his mother, Callisto, who claims his brother, Deimos, is still alive. Learning that Deimos has been imprisoned and tortured in the Domain of Death, Kratos attempts his rescue, climaxing in a confrontation with the God of Death, Thanatos. Ghost of Sparta is chronologically the fourth chapter in the series, which focuses on vengeance as its central theme
